WorkCover weekly payments to go to Retirement Age

This week the government announced a welcomed improvement to weekly payments for injured workers in receipt of payments later in their working life.  

 

Until now weekly payments in most circumstances will cease at the age of 65, regardless of a workers intentions to work beyond this date. This leads to incredible injustice for workers who had intended, for reasons often out of their control (such as marriage breakdown or illness of their spouse) to work beyond 65.  

 

From now, in a slight but welcomed increase, weekly payments will be tied to the age pension retirement age as set by Centrelink, being - 

 

Age requirements for the Aged Pension

If you were born between you qualify for Age Pension at age - 

1 July 1952 to 31 December 1953 - 65 years and 6 months

1 January 1954 to 30 June 1955 -  66 years

1 July 1955 to 31 December 1956 - 66 years and 6 months

From 1 January 1957 - 67 years
